Mission, Vision Statement, and Values
for TAY Empowerment Project
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to empower and inspire youth who are a part of the
Transitional Age Youth community to create positive change in the mental
health system.
Our Vision:
We envision a community in which culturally diverse youth in need
of mental health services are given helpful resources by peers so that they
can learn to lead productive lives and advocate for themselves and other
youth.
Our Values:
We believe that youth’s individual needs, cultural, spiritual beliefs
and traditions should be accommodated in their mental health services. We
believe all youth have valuable ideas and invite youth to bring them into
the creative production of our project. We model cultural competence at all
levels of our project. We believe youth should have opportunities to develop
emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually in culturally appropriate environments.
We believe in the power of youth. We believe in peers helping other peers.
We believe every young person has the capacity to become a leader.
We believe that every youth deserve opportunities to learn and grow. We
believe every youth should have the opportunity to learn about themselves,
to acquire new skills, and to advocate for their needs and those of their
peers. We know that in order to grow we need support from youth that have
already been through tough times. In order to create programs for youth we
need to have the youth to create them. No one knows what the youth needs more
than the youth receiving the services. Our vision is to have transitional
age youth create the services they crave.
We believe that to better the mental health system, youth need to recognize
and understand the system that already exists. We inspire youth to be excited
about working together to commit to social change and to transform the programs
for transitional age community in order to better ourselves and the youth
that come after us.
